Passage of the Day - June 3, 2011

Ecclesiastes 8:14-15

 ¹⁴ There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility. ¹⁵ So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun.

The comparison game is the most joyless game there is.  When you start to compare yourself, your lot, your spouse, your parents, your job, your…. to others, you realize that life ain’t fair, you ain’t as good or got it as good as other people, someone else’s spouse is so much better than your own and so on.  What good is that?  Why would we want live a life of constant utter disappointment?  Instead of focusing on what we don’t have, let us enjoy to the fullest what we do have.
